I hope everyone gets to learn from this… I’m blogging it, of course, to help that happen.
I was disappointed no one outside of San Francisco got to hear a similar story (before blog days). Our choices for mayor were a jerk, another jerk, and third jerk, and a great guy who dropped out of the race because he was on city council and they were trying to pass a lot of crap in his absence.
So everyone went to the polls with pocket protectors and pens waving in the air, and wrote him in. It went to runoff.
We eventually lost–but a write-in runoff in San Francisco just made me giddy, and I wanted the rest of the country to know about it… you are NOT powerless. Of course, they never heard it.
Y’all got true courage. Congrats! And spread the word!
PS: The rolling blackouts of San Francisco never happened. THAT story they told the country (a lie), but not the mayor fight that rocked our world. They weren’t “rolling”… rolling blackouts do not exclusively hit poor neighborhoods. The electric companies were angry we voted against taxpayer bailout of their own mistakes AGAIN (they kept putting it on ballot hoping we wouldn’t notice, this time), and simply turned the lights off.
